Domain

When I signed up for a new account, I used the domain that I wanted to edit. Now, my ‘My Site’ has that added to the front of my account ( [domain_name.wordpress.com]). I don’t want that as my main ‘My Site’. What can I do to fix this????
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi
Do you own marshmallowfestival.com (without the .wordpress)?
Using custom domains is a feature of paid WordPress plans. All three plans include this option. You can read more about each plan here:
If you have a WordPress plan already, I’d be happy to walk you through how to set up your domain the way you want. Let me know!

Hi there,
Can you give me some more details so I can get a better idea of what’s going on? What is the URL of your site currently? What is the URL you want your site to have? Did you purchase a plan including that domain when you created your site?
In order to have a domain_name.com instead of a domain_name.wordpress.com site you have to purchase one of the plans. That purchase includes the price of a custom domain.
You can also map a domain you already own to the site if you purchase a plan. Here’s the instructions on how to do that. en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Here’s some information on how the plan pricing works. https://wordpress.com/pricing/.
I hope that helps.

I found out after posting that initial topic that I cannot edit my existing website with Word Press unless I create it with word press or at least convert it. But the main issue I still have is that the name of “My Site” in my account is marshmallowfestival.wordpress.com. I don’t want the marshmallowfestival part of my Primary Site. Does that explanation help at all??

Hi ccmarshall86421,
Can you let us know the URL of the site you’d like as your Primary site?
Your main site might be under a different WordPress account, or it may be a self-hosted site (i.e. not on WordPress.com, but on WordPress.org https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/) Or you may need an upgraded plan as @sarahfoxgreenlee suggested.
Let us know. We’d love to get to the bottom of this for you!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your time!!!! I don’t have any particular site that I want other than just the regular page when people create an account like ccmarshall86421.wordpress.com. I first chose ccmarshall68 in the hopes of using Word Press to edit http://www.marshmallowfestival.com. But I found out yesterday that in order to edit that site with Word Press, it has to be regitered there. The website is not affiliated with Word Press at this time. A few years ago, another webmaster designed it with Word Press and then decided to not be involved with it anymore. After that, another individual designed a page and now I am back in full control of the site and am wanting to learn more about creating and editing existing websites.

Hi ccmarshall86421, thanks for clarifying what you want to achieve here. Let’s see if I can help you out!
Set your primary site to ccmarshall68
To get ccmarshall86421.wordpress.com to be the site that shows up first in ‘My Sites’, you can go here:https://wordpress.com/me/account
…and select which site you’d like to display as your Primary Site. Your ccmarshall86421 site should show up there! Once you select it as your Primary Site, be sure to click Save Account Settings at the bottom.
To remove marshmallowfestival.wordpress.com
If you do not want this as part of your WordPress account at all, you can follow the instructions to delete a site as laid out here:Just remember that this is a permanent deletion. There’s no harm in leaving that site in your account if you’d like to revisit it one day.
Managing marshmallowfestival.com on WordPress
In order to manage your site on WordPress.com, you will need to import all the content over here. The easiest thing to do would be to reconstruct the site yourself in WordPress. Normally I wouldn’t suggest this because of the amount of work that could involve. However, as this site is just the one page it should be relatively easily to build a nice-looking site using one of the WordPress themes! To use a custom domain with WordPress.com (meaning marshmallowfestival.com not marshmallowfestival.wordpress.com), you will need a paid WordPress plan: https://wordpress.com/plans
You can then follow the instructions as outlined here to bring marshmallowfestival.com into your WordPress account:

I hope this helps. Let me know if you need any further answers or clarifications! -
Hi there,
I first chose ccmarshall68 in the hopes of using Word Press to edit http://www.marshmallowfestival.com. But I found out yesterday that in order to edit that site with Word Press, it has to be regitered there.
I took a look at your site on that domain, and that site is not using the WordPress software, so there is no way to link that site to a WordPress.com account. You can only use the My Sites interface to manage WordPress.com sites, or self-hosted sites using the WordPress.org software.
What you currently have at that domain is a static page, so just a website that was created with a set of HTML code, and the only way to edit that website is to edit that code directly. WordPress on the other hand (whether you use WordPress.com or the self-hosted version) is what’s called a CMS – Content Management System – software that’s designed to let you easily add, change and manage content on the site without having to edit the code each time.
If you wanted to, you could create a WordPress.com site ( like you already have at http://marshmallowfestival.wordpress.com/), and copy the content of your website into a new page on the WordPress.com site. Then you can connect your domain here, and build out that site some more on our system.
Or you can set up a hosting account with another provider and do the same using the self-hosted WordPress software, the main difference being that with the self-hosted software you have the option of changing the site’s actual code if you wanted to.
Does that help explain things a bit? Let me know if you need any more help with this.
