Domain

Could you please send me screen shot?

  • Hi there,

This is for the domain, sholtomorton.com, correct? You cancelled that domain yesterday, so you no longer own it, and you deleted the WordPress.com site to which it was attached. It’s not possible to transfer a domain that you no longer own.

    Cancel Domain

I’ve emailed our domain provider to try and get the domain back for you. I’ll let you know once they reply. Meanwhile I need you to please create a new free WordPress.com site so I can attach the domain to it once it’s restored. The domain need to be attached to a WordPress.com site for you to be able to access the transfer settings.

Thank you for helping. A few things, though.

If another volunteer has already replied to a thread, please don’t reply to just ask the same questions the first person did. If the first responder missed something important you’re welcome to add to it, but let’s try not to duplicate replies.

The contact button you refer to routes users based on their upgrade level. If someone doesn’t own any upgrades, like the OP, that button will only bring them back to the forums. You can find an outline of all the support options here:

Thank you for your help. I have bought a new domain sholtomorton.com.au “.au”to use. I don’t mind if the domain sholtomorton.com “.com” is deleted. The problem is I don’t have the EPP code and the domain sholtomorton.com is still locked. Bluehost won’t change the hosting to the new domain.

  • Unknown's avatar
  • The domain sholtomorton.com is cancelled as I said above. So there is currently no way to obtain an EPP code for that domain.

Should I attempt to restore that domain so you can transfer it, or will you only be using sholtomorton.com.au which you bought somewhere else?

Note that transferring the domain is not the same as transferring your site. If you want to transfer the content of the WordPress.com site you had with us, you needed to do that before you deleted the site. Transferring the domain will ONLY transfer the domain registration. It does not transfer any content on the site that used to be at the domain.

I will only be using the sholtomorton.com.au domain. I still have the contents of the site in a zip file. So I am hoping I can still import it, once the domain name is hosted?

I have been trying to sort this out with bluehost for 36 hours. Why won’t they transfer the hosting to my new domain?

  • Unknown's avatar

Are you able to contact Bluehost and confirm the sholtomorton.com is no longer in existance?

  • Unknown's avatar

I started this process to change my site to .org so I could do ecommerce. Under Australian Tax law the site has to be a .com.au domain.

  • Hello @kokkieh thank you so much for the links. Yes, am just starting to volunteer answering queries here, your links would be really helpful.

I click on GET HELP button and I see a form to contact an expert – http://imgur.com/5PWxkPV is it new? I only have free plan.

  • I still have the contents of the site in a zip file. So I am hoping I can still import it, once the domain name is hosted?

If you have an export file you should be able to import it on your Bluehost site, though any media files you had on your site won’t be imported, as those are not in the export file. Media files are migrated directly from one site to another during the import process, but as you’ve deleted the WordPress.com site that is no longer possible.

I have been trying to sort this out with bluehost for 36 hours. Why won’t they transfer the hosting to my new domain?

I’m not sure what you want to transfer. Your .com.au domain is already pointed to Bluehost from what I can see. Have you installed the WordPress software yet via Bluehost’s cPanel?

Self-hosted sites don’t work the same as WordPress.com, and your site here can’t just transfer over there. You’ll need to install the software on your hosting account with Bluehost, and then import your content over there.

You can see the documentation on the WordPress.org software for more information:

    https://codex.wordpress.org/

Are you able to contact Bluehost and confirm the sholtomorton.com is no longer in existance?

Your domain, sholtomorton.com, was registered with us, and has nothing whatsoever to do with Bluehost. You cancelled that domain yesterday from the WordPress.com Purchases page, so it no longer exists.

  • staff-imahappyengineer what you saw is an experimental feature we’ve been testing, and it’s not visible to all users which is also why we don’t mention it in the documentation.

  • Thank you @kokkieh, it doesn’t say anything like “beta” anywhere, so didn’t know it’s only an experimental feature. :)

Hello @christinemaze I’m sorry, if I somehow override your attempt to help, I didn’t mean to.

I think I used the wrong word. I don’t want to “transfer” the domain sholtomorton.com.

The problem has occurred because when I transferred my site from WordPress.com to WordPress.org, I setup my account with Bluehost using the domain sholtomorton.com

I don’t own the domain sholtomorton.com. I notified Bluehost of this issue within 48 hours of setting up the account.

My issue is that Bluehost won’t remove the domain from the hosting and my account.

I have asked them to host sholtomorton.com.au and make this the main domain.

I have received numerous excuses and procrastination for two days now.

Can you please give me some advise how to address this issue?

  • I can see that sholtomorton.com is hosted by WordPress.COM. Have you already purchased – sholtomorton.com.au? Do you see it in your Bluehost account listed?

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but based on your description, I think this is what happened:

    1. You have a WordPress.COM website (which I am unsure what’s the URL), and you wanted to switch to WordPress.ORG (self-hosted website)

    2. So you went to Bluehost.com, purchased hosting, during this part – http://imgur.com/ogAaq83 (see screenshot) you entered sholtomorton.com as your domain, under I have a Domain Name.

    3. Since this domain – sholtomorton.com – is with your WordPress.COM, you deleted your WordPress.COM website, thinking that it would allow you to use it in Bluehost.

    4. But you realize you cannot, so you contacted Bluehost to change your domain to sholtomorton.com.au.

Let me know if I am correct, or I missed something.

@kokkieh I hope it’s okay if I ask her these probing questions.

    Regards,
    Rose

I did purchase sholtomorton.com.au. It is currently “parked” with bluehost.

I did have a WordPress.com account and I wanted to switch to WordPress.org for ecommerce capabilities.

I did purchase hosting with bluehost under “I have a domain name”

I did delete the site thinking my wordpress.org site would then be live and the hosting would work.

I notified Bluehost I don’t own the domain.

I did buy the domain sholtomorton.com.au from another domain supplier. I was advised from Bluehost that this would work.

But I must add for ecommerce purposes, I don’t want the domain sholtomorton.com. I can’t legally trade with this domain name.

I problem is that Bluehost won’t remove the domain sholtomorton.com and set up sholtomorton.com.au as the main domain.

  • I did purchase hosting with bluehost under “I have a domain name”

What’s the domain name that you have entered here? http://imgur.com/ogAaq83 (see screenshot)

I did delete the site thinking my wordpress.org site would then be live and the hosting would work.

No, it won’t work that way.

I did buy the domain sholtomorton.com.au from another domain supplier. I was advised from Bluehost that this would work.

If I understand you correctly, here’s what you need to do:

    1. Since you purchased your domain somewhere else, you need to get the nameservers from your BlueHost
    2. Once you get the nameservers from Bluehost, you need to login to the company where you purchased your domain name and put the nameservers there, or contact them to do this for you – this will point your domain name to Bluehost.
    3. Then you need to login to Bluehost to change your primary domain – I found this link with instructions.

I wish it was that simple. The domain is parked with bluehost and the name servers have been changed.

Bluehost won’t change the sholtomorton.com.au to the main domain.

    I don’t understand.

Do you know what this means – “Waiting for domain sholtomorton.com to resolve to the server IP”?

  • It’s because of the nameservers.

I sent you the link on how to change the main domain. Have you already tried that?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have done all of this. It says in the instructions to “change your primary domain name, simply contact us by phone or chat.”

It also says “newly registered domain names can only be cancelled within three days of purchase” If this is the case they should have deleted the domain as soon as I notified them that I was not the owner of the domain and it is licensed to WordPress.com and Wild West domains.

If I assign the domain to the account then I will be charged an upgrade because as far as they are concerned I have two domains.

I want bluehost to change the name of the account to sholtomorton.com.au and this domain be the only domain on my account.

  • I suggest that you contact them directly. Personally, if I were on your situation. I would just cancel my current hosting plan, and create a new one with the correct domain. But then again, that is only a suggestion, it would incur you more charges for sure. This forum doesn’t cover the issue you are experiencing right now.
