You can buy a domain without adding to a WordPress.com plan, just go to
https://wordpress.com/domain
type the name with you wish to register for and search, then click Buy Domain
> You’ll be asked if you want to use a domain with a plan, if you wish to just buy the domain
then click> “Just Buy Domain”But what I would recommend is buy an WordPress.com Plan, Each plan comes with free “Domain Credit” which you either can use to get a domain for free or Map a domain you already own for free.

Domain Registrations are offered as part of WordPress.com plans. You will need to have an active plan on your site in order to register a domain.

We do not sell domains separately from a plan, and haven’t for several years now. If you want to add a custom domain to your WordPress.com site, you will have to buy a paid plan for that site.
You can buy a domain without adding to a WordPress.com plan, just go to
https://wordpress.com/domainThat option is to only buy a domain, without connecting it to any WordPress.com site, and is only useful if someone wants to buy a domain from us but host it somewhere else. The documentation on that product can be found here:
