Hi, I set up a free WordPress blog but now I would like to buy the domain and add it to my site. Am I able to do this without loosing what I have so far?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You’ll still keep the content on the site you currently have.
Domain Registrations are offered as part of our WordPress.com plans. You will need to have an active plan on your site in order to register a domain. Each plan comes with one free domain registration. However, you can register as many additional domains as you want on the same site, but you have to pay for additional registrations separately.
With registering a new domain: your old address will still work, but WordPress will automatically redirect traffic from your old address to your new one.

You can use the Export tool to back up all of your content or move your content to a new WordPress site:
And Import to another blog:

Just adding to the helpful information @catkiinson provided — registering a custom domain will hide your free address, rather than creating a separate site.
So if you want to keep everything where it is and just add a custom domain, there is no need to move any content manually. Exporting and importing would only be needed to if you wanted to move existing content to a brand new site.
