    Hi there,

Could you please clarify what your current hosting of your website is? For example, is it using the self-hosted version of WordPress, or Wix for example?

You’re welcome to transfer your domain to WordPress.com: https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/

Let us know this information and we’ll try to help. :)

    Good morning,

The first thing you’ll need to do is create a WordPress.com website, which will allow you to transfer any domains or export content. You can start by doing that here: https://wordpress.com/start

I’m assuming you’ll also want to transfer your content from your old website to WordPress.com too. This is a bit tricky as there isn’t a compiled guide for iWeb, but I found this message from @supernovia.

if you can export the content from iWeb to an RSS file, we can import that. This tutorial looks like it might step you through. Just skip the part about installing WordPress, since we’ve taken care of that for you. :) If you can get the RSS we can see what we can do to help from there.

The problem is that this was sent over a year ago, so I’m tagging WordPress.com staff to see if it’s outdated or not. They’ll likely respond within a few hours.

Since you’re wishing to use your domains on WordPress.com, it’s generally encouraged on the support documentation to transfer them last, after all your content has been transferred over.

However, for your “cesar-ortiz.com/” domain, you can transfer it to WordPress.com: https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/

For “cesar-ortiz.de”, “.de” isn’t an extension facilitated by WordPress.com so you can’t transfer it, but you can map it instead: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

In terms of pricing, you’ll need to buy a paid WordPress.com plan on your website to transfer your domain. Assuming you transfer your “.com” domain (which is the most common route), that’s included in the plan, but mapping your “.de” domain to WordPress.com would cost an additional $13 per a year.

You can compare plan pricing here for extra features, although any paid plan (including the Personal Plan) will still result in the scenario above: https://wordpress.com/pricing

First though, I think it’s best if you create a website and ensure you’re able to transfer the content from your site built with iWeb to WordPress.com. Let us know if you have any further questions or issues. :)

If you want to make things professionally try to work in self hosted wordpress.org and your hosting, like scaleway.

Just for clarification on the two, see here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Although plenty of professional websites have been built with WordPress.com too! :)

  • Hi @karaterheinfelden, it’s been a while since I’ve tried importing an iWeb site. If you were able to get an RSS though you can give it a go and let us know if you need help.

If there aren’t very many pages and posts, it’s possible just copying and pasting your content manually will be more efficient. You can even change the dates for your blog posts as needed.

Once everything is imported, you can add a plan and map your domains. Adding a plan also gives you direct support so we can help you through anything you need there, but you can also contact us here for further assistance.
