  I already own a domain name registered with network solutions. But would like to have it mapped to wordpress. Example wordpress current address is mysite.wordpress.com. But i own mysite.com. Am I correct that I will have to pay wordpress to have this mapping complete?

  That’s correct — you will need to purchase a paid plan in order to map an existing domain to WordPress.com. The domain credit included in that will cover the cost:
