    Hello @seaportre,

Firstly it would be nice if you can share the url of the site you need help with, in the meanwhile the below mentioned links will help you make an informed decision about transferring or mapping your domain.

    1. Transfer: https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/
    2. Mapping: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

Hope this helps, All the best.

  • Hi there,

Which one you choose is really up to you.

If you transfer the domain to us, it means you’ll be able to control both your site and your domain from one account, and you’ll also just have to pay one provider to renew both.

If you map the domain, you’ll have to remember to pay your domain provider as well as us for the annual renewals, and some changes on your domain will have to be made on their end rather than ours, meaning we can’t help you with making those kinds of changes. On the other hand, the domain renewal cost at your current provider might be cheaper than ours, or if you have a complex DNS setup it might be easier to keep the domain there so you don’t have to move all those settings over to us.

So it depends on which option is more convenient or cost effective for you. Either way, your domain will show your WordPress.com site – there’s no real difference in how things work in that regard between these two options.

This is a general information question, and you do not need a site link in order to answer it. And simply pointing the instructions how to perform these actions does not answer the OP’s question about which option is better.

For questions like these, try searching the forums for previous answers from staff or our more experienced volunteers, as it’s likely such a question has been asked before.
