  Is it better to transfer my current domain from GoDaddy or to map it? Will there be a big price difference? thanks

  There is not such pricing difference just you should be on paid plans to add custom domain to your site. Here is the support document that will let you know more about plans pricing and features:

  If your domain is about to renew in few months then while transferring the domain you have to pay for the next cycle renewal. As in future WordPress.com will be your registrar of your domain.

  If you will just map your domain then there is nothing as such you have to pay for.

  Our paid plans include a domain credit that covers the cost of the transfer. We will also automatically renew the domain for another year once the transfer has been successfully completed. After the first year, your domain will renew at the regular cost:

  In short, you will need to purchase a paid to map or transfer a domain to WordPress.com.
