Domain
-
I just purchased a domain with a company. We want to develop a web site. Is it best to move everything to Word Press…that why everything is in one location? or does it really matter?

Hi –
This is a very common question. Go ahead and build your new site on WordPress.com. Write content, customize the theme, get it all ready to launch.

There’s 2 ways to connect the domain. Either will work fine. Neither is permanent.
1. Mapping: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
2. Transfer: https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/With mapping, the domain just points to WordPress.com and you will need to renew your plan through us each year + your domain registration wherever that is.
With the domain transfer everything would be located at WordPress.com. The domain does need to be 60 days old in order to transfer it anywhere. It’s an ICANN regulation not one that we have set. If the domain is brand new, you can map it for now, and transfer it later on once eligible.
I hope this helps. Write back with more questions.
