  Hi, I have a website up and running on a different platform that I would like to now create on wordpress, however wordpress is making me switch my domain as I am creating my website in the initial stages. I need that other website to stay up and running until I have created this website and it is fully functional. How do I work around that?

  No problem. You’re welcome to create your new site with us before pointing the domain here. That way your current site can stay “live” until your new one is ready.

  I do recommend getting a plan earlier on if you’ll need it, since they have other features you might find useful, including direct support:
  https://wordpress.com/plans

  Then just avoid using the custom domain options until you’re ready. Stick with one of the “wordpress.com” or “home.blog” type addresses, and then you can map or transfer the domain when you’re ready.
