Domain
-
Hello,
Can I forward my Godaddy domain to my free WP site?
Thanks
-
It’s my first day here and my website was working perfectly until now, please somebody help me…
-
Hi –
No, you can’t connect the domain for free. It requires a personal hosting plan. See here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/ and https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
-
It’s not to connect domain, I know that, I’m gonna do eventually, but Godaddy offers a forward domain service to any URL
-
That won’t work with how free sites are set up on WordPress.com. It’s probably domain masking that they’re offering. That’s not an ideal solution – it won’t allow your theme to work properly on mobile views, and other issues.
-
Yes its exactly what I’m experiencing right now, sometimes works and loads perfectly and sometimes not like right now as I’m typing, thank you
-
Yeah, masked domains don’t always work properly, and we can’t guarantee functionality under them.
To add a domain to your site here properly, we have two options:
Mapping allows you to keep the domain registered with your current domain registrar and direct it to your WordPress.com site: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/
A transfer would allow to manage both your site and domain from the same place: https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/

I just upgraded to Premium but I couldn’t transfer my domain from Godaddy cause it was registered a couple of days ago,
so I used the map domain feature but it keeps pointing to mywebsite.wordpress.com , I thought will point to mywebsite.com
This is normal or am I doing something wrong?

One more thing… The way I set up the sidebar widgets on my pages is looking different when we click to read the post… and I can’t find a way to fix it and make it look all the same…
-
That’s determined by the theme that you use. When I click on that post on your front page, https://citylifeorg.com/2020/06/07/an-interview-with-writer-and-lgbtq-activist-michael-musto/ , I am able to see widgets loading on the right hand side of the page. Do you not see that as well?
