  Hi, I currently have a domain purchased outside WordPress and due for renewal next month. What can I do such that when the paid domain is due, I’m able to use for my WordPress site?
  I plan to upgrade to Premium plan and since it comes with a year of free domain, I wish to use the same domain name and do not wish to incur additional fees for domain mapping before my paid domain is due.

  Hi –

  I’d start setting up your new site on WordPress.com now. Using the free option. Be sure that you renew your domain at the current provider because you don’t want to deal with the domain expiration process.

  Once the free site is ready, you can then connect the domain to it. Add the premium plan via https://wordpress.com/pricing/ Then click on My Sites – Manage – Domains – Add

  Go back to the domain provider and tell them to point the domain to us. The full process is here: ∫https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

  Hi, thanks for the answers.
  Would there be any lapse if we like to transfer domain to WordPress when our existing domain expires ? We will want to get back the same domain.

  If we do domain mapping, it will likely be for less than a month before the existing domain plan expires. As such, can the remaining period of a year of free domain given on plan upgrade be used to offset domain purchase ?
