  Hi, I would like to investigate wordpress to see whether it would suit me before I commit, therefore I do not want to tranfer my domain at this moment. Is it possible to build a site without registering a domain at this point?

  You are able to use/create a free WordPress account without moving your current domain.

  If it asks you to pay which could happen choose the free options.
