    I purchased my domain with HostGator.com
    When I follow the steps for Mapping a Domain all is well until it wants me to purchase 120$ when I have WordPress for free with HostGator. I do not understand what the issue is.

    WordPress.org and WordPress.com are two different platforms. For more information on both the platform please refer to the link below: https://wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    If you have purchased hosting With HostGator then you have to use WordPress.org software there which is free. For that please contact your hosting provider HostGator to help you will the installation of WordPress on their hosting.

    If you are using WordPress.com platform for hosting your free website till now and now want to add a custom domain(via domain mapping) to your site then you have to be on paid plans of WordPress. For more information on plans and pricing refer to the link below:
