Domain

I deleted my domain and didn’t finish out the year that I bought. How long does it take for the domain to be released for purchase again?

Hi rploveley
Note :- It can be difficult to get a domain back after you have cancelled. You should only cancel a domain if you are sure you no longer want it and are okay with the potential of someone else registering and using it.
Can you please mention the domain name which you deleted?
Also, ‘Modlook’ tag is already added to this thread. Please wait for some time staff might help you out with the timeline thing.

Good Morning –
I am looking at amouthfulofromance.com. Please indicate if you need help with a different domain.
The domain was not cancelled with in the 48 hour registration window which allows for immediate release. That process makes the domain available again with in 5 days of the cancellation.
As it stands now, it will take up to a year for the domain to be released.
The best thing that we can do is to restore the domain back on to your account. There’s no additional fee to you for this as you’ve already paid for the year. Then, once the domain has been restored to your account, you can edit the DNS details and point it to a different hosting provider. There won’t be any further “down time” with this option.
Write back and let me know if you’d like to proceed that way.
These are the instructions for pointing the domain to a different provider:

Yes, that is the correct domain. I don’t want it back. I want it to be released so I can buy it through a host. So, I will have to wait a year for the domain to be released?

To clarify what Liz is saying, when a domain is cancelled it can take up to 90 days for it to be released to the public for resale. So it may not be available until January of next year at the earliest.
But it sounds like you will need it sooner than that. What we can do is reactivate the domain on your account here, which will allow you to use it right away. You won’t be able to transfer but we can add settings to the domain (on our end) to allow it to connect to your new host. By doing this, you can still use it as the address of your site over there even though it is still registered under your WordPress.com account.
With this in mind, do you want to recover amouthfulofromance.com under your WordPress.com account rather than wait for it to go on sale to the public in 2021?
Let us know how you would like to proceed or if you have any questions.
