  (In your GoDaddy control panel), you need to set the Nameservers of the new domain to point to WordPress nameservers.

  From that point, you do everything in WordPress. Manage | Domains | Add a domain… I forget the exact process, but when I set my domain up, whatever the process was in WP, it was intuitive.

  You have the choice to either map or transfer your domain to WordPress.com

  Domain Mapping means that you connect your domain with your WordPress.com site, but you renew the domain at your registrar (where you bought the domain), and renew your site plan here at WordPress.com.

  Domain Transfer means that your domain’s registration is moved over to WordPress.com and we then become your registrar, so all future renewals of your domain and plan for your WordPress.com site are managed and paid on your WordPress.com account.

  Please only follow my advice if you want to move your site to WordPress.com which is a hosting provider for WordPress software.

  GoDaddy is another hosting provider for WordPress software.
