Domain
-
Hi there, we purchased a domain but had trouble figuring out how to enter new payment information when there was a transfer of leadership at our organization. Now Word press is saying we need to buy a new domain, the one we already had is still mapped to a WordPress site, presumably ours, but we can’t figure out how to reactive it.
The domain is lrsar.org

It looks like you’ve canceled the domain name, meaning you no longer own it.
Please let us know which of these options works best for you:
Wait: You can wait about five days from cancellation for the domain to be released. So long as no one else buys it before you do, you can purchase it again with another provider.
Repurchase the Domain: We can send an invoice and restore the domain. You’ll be able to point it to a new host as soon as it’s restored, then transfer the registration after 60 days.
Repurchase a Plan: To host your site here after all, buy a plan, skip the domain option, then update us here.

Hi There
If I’m following you correctly, We’d love to repurchase the domain and to continue having it hosted on WordPress, which I believe means we’d have to purchase a new plan as well.

As a follow-up, the email associated with this account is no longer working because it is tied to the domain name. If the invoice will show up on the website portal I can find it there. If it needs to be emailed please email it to the new Admin ethatcher89… which has just been updated and is associated with a useable email address linked to it.

Thanks for the invoice. I’m paid up now but still can’t connect to our former domain name.

An invoice has not been sent yet.
I unfortunately left out a step.
In order to proceed, we will need to see the request from the account which owned the domain, which is not the account you’re currently logged in as.
If you do not recall the password for the correct account, we have some options for you at https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/

that individual is no longer with our organization… but ill try. do they just have to log on and make the request in this forum? or go through the map domain function on our WordPress portal?
moving forward should i just delte that user or is everything tied to them?
-
Since that individual owned the domain, we can only take action on it at their request, until it returns to the public market, of course.
-
how long until it returns to the public market? and I’m assuming at that point I just need to go through the domain claiming process on WordPress to reclaim it?

In a few days’ time, the domain should go into redemption at the registry that controls all .org domains. Redemption lasts for 30 days, after which the registry deletes the domain. Usually the domain is released into the pool of available domain names a few days after that. Once it’s released, you’ll be able to register it as a new domain at any domain provider that sells .org domains.
However, we cannot guarantee this, as we have no direct control over the process. Additionally, the registry may choose not to release the domain, and even if they do, the domain could be on back-order already at another domain provider, in which case they’ll try to register it for the person who ordered it the moment it becomes available.
The only way to guarantee that you retain control over the domain is for the current owner to contact us to restore it to their account, and then to transfer ownership to your account.
Also note that if they only contact us after the domain has already entered redemption, there will be an additional $80 fee to restore the domain – that is what we have to pay the registry to retrieve a domain out of redemption.

Thanks. How does the former owner go about initiating that process. Is it done right here through these forums?
