  Hello, so I already have a domain and website, however It needs to be changed and I would like to try and do it through word press. I need the website up and running though while I work on design. So is there anyway to build the design, content, functionality of site and then adding the domain when it is finished? Did that make sense? Sorry this is all new to me.

  Many thanks for reaching out!

  It is possible to create your site on WordPress.com using the default .WordPress.com (i.e. example.WordPress.com).

  This will ensure your live site remains untouched.

  When you’re ready to use your real domain, you can either transfer the domain to WordPress ( https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/ ) or you can map the domain ( https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/ ).
