Domain

Hello, I thought I would save money with Weebly and registered my domain name I want thru them. It’s a complete mess because I think something has gone wrong because squareup is now sending me stuff. Anyway, I never verified the domain name from the email they sent. I want to sign up with WordPress with that domain. I did this on 2-23-2021 and they have not replied from several emails. I don’t know anything about domains so wondered if you can help me transfer it over. I bought it outright, but when I went to check, it says it’s being used. I’m looking at your business plans if it allows fotomoto. We used Bay Photos and liked their lab, but open to other platforms to purchase photos. I’m so ready to get this started, but stuck because of the domain. Do you have any suggestions?

  • What is the domain name?

  • Hm, this is a registered domain name, it’s not in use here, but it’s still within its 60-day transfer lock, which is imposed on all domain registrars by ICANN.

Until then, you can still direct the domain name to site here at WordPress.com by mapping it: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/

Then, after that 60 day period, you can transfer it to us: https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/

Just great….thank you. I wanted his website up by this Thursday. Thank you for your help anyway. I thought since I never verified it by email that it would be ok to delete and start over.

Thanks anyway. Might have to delete and pick something else.

Ok…they just now refunded harwellphotos.com and said I can now use it at any web host I want. Can you verify that I can use it at WordPress now?

    Thank you for any help.

  • It’s currently set to “clientTransferProhibited” so I’d recommend checking in with them once more to see when it will be released. For us, if we cancel a domain within about 5 days of registration, it’ll be released within a few days. If we cancel after 5 days, it takes much longer. And I noticed this domain was registered Feb 24, so you’ll want to double check with them to be sure.

Again, if all else fails, you can map it here for now.

And, in the meantime, you’re welcome to start creating the site with a temporary domain until the real one is ready. I do recommend getting a plan earlier on if you’ll need it, since they have other features you might find useful, including direct support:
    https://wordpress.com/plans

Then just avoid using the domain options until you’re ready, and then you can map or transfer the domain.
