  The cheapest option is a free domain. Once you create a website on WordPress.com, you will get a free sub-domain for your website, it will look something like this: myfreedomain35465465.wordpress.com. And it will be always free.

  If you need to remove .wordpress.com from the URL, then you need to purchase a custom domain. Here is a good article about registration of a custom domains:
