domain

I already have a domain through godaddy, if I sign up for a plan can I use that domain or do I have to get a different one

Site: (email visible only to moderators and staff).
    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

  • Hi there! Great question. You have a couple of options.

    1. You can keep your domain at GoDaddy and “connect” it to your site here at WordPress.com.

    2. You can “transfer” your domain from GoDaddy (if you have owned it for 60 days or more) to your account here at WordPress.com.

Either will work just fine. And either is covered with the purchase of one of our plans.

Let us know if you have any questions about what you learn at the links I’ve put above. :)

That’s cool, so is there a link for me to learn how to do that, I have had my .com for almost 10 years so I don’t want to loose it.
I see you have plans for both so I will see what I can do

  • Generally speaking I recommend upgrading first, then going to https://wordpress.com/help/contact and we’ll be happy to walk you through the process of moving your domain over as seamlessly as possible.

However, without an upgrade there is no way to “see” how this goes on within your dashboard so it’s hard for us to guide you at this point. You can read the links Dean included above though, which will give you a picture of how both options work.

My advice is that it’s usually best to transfer your domain, since that will mean all your future billing is here at WordPress.com instead of in two places (here and at GoDaddy to renew the domain)

    Hope this helps!
