  Hiya! I recently purchased a domain without realising I couldn’t use third party templates. I cancelled my plan and my domain, but it is being held still by wordpress. I wondered if you had a vague timeline for when it would be released so I can register it to another site.

  Many thanks for reaching out.

  There are no set timings as to when a domain may become available, and this can be at a minimum of between 60-90 days.

  Even then, when released, it’s possible that someone else can buy the domain. For this reason, we recommend not deleting a domain if it has intrinsic value. Please see what happens, when a domain is cancelled here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/

  With that in mind, I can restore the domain for you if you wish? It doesn’t look like a refund for the domain was processed as the refund window passed, so this would be restored free of charge.

  On the business plan, it is possible to use third party templates and themes (as well as plugins) with WordPress.com. :)

  Out of curiosity, what are you looking to build and what are you looking to achieve? I can perhaps offer some advice and guidance on how best to go about the project. :)
