Domain
-
OK, guys, need some help.
I have a domain name and I’ve been trying, unsuccessfully to follow (the simple) instructions to have my blog under said domain.
I even purchase 15 credits to try and solve the problem (I bought them for CSS style change) but they don’t appear in my credit box, so may have wastewd some valuable cash there.
What do I do?

So you bought the CSS upgrade, but now you want to apply the money to the Domain Name Upgrade instead? Or you want both upgrades? Have you already purchased a domain name from somewhere else?
If you don’t want the CSS upgrade, you’ll need to contact staff during their office hours. Don’t leave it; they don’t work during the weekend.

I wanted to buy a Domain Name upgrade, but there is nowhere in the blog controls to do so. I own the domain I want the bog to point to and I’ve done my bit, but I can’t find anything anywhere to allow me to purchase the 10 credits I need. So, thinking that any credits bought would count, I made the CSS purchase not realising that the procurement is item specific (not very clear).

I just went through this, and I agree that it’s incredibly complicated and, though the instructions are clearly written, they are neither clear nor comprehensive. Some of the latter issue is due to the differences in the way many registrars (domain hosts) have you set up – everyone’s unique and they all appear to act like their way is the correct way. Here’s a couple of things you may already know:
1. You won’t be offered the option to pay for domain name upgrade credits UNTIL AND UNLESS you have the host/registrar of the domain you own REPOINT the DNS entries to WordPress FIRST. FIRST! That’s the part that’s screwy, IMHO – but what WordPress is apparently trying to do is prevent people from spending money on the domain upgrade before they actually have a domain. Doesn’t help folks like you and me that are 1/2 way there already.2. What you must do first is go to your registrar (mine was Homestead) and have them do a redirect per the instructions here on the domain pages, changing the DNS entries and pointing your domain away from their site to WordPress’s. Don’t tell them you are closing your account or transfering your domain, even if that’s your eventual plan. Homestead got really weird on me when I gave them the whole plan. It DOES TAKE about 48 hours to get it done and get it propagated across the ‘Net.
3. THEN, come back to the Domain pages here and go through the upgrade steps by entering your domain in that box… if the DNS entries have been correctly pointed by the other registrar, you WILL be able to buy your 10 credits and get it set up.
Sorry about the mispurchase – I almost did the same thing. I have no idea how to get that fixed. And I’m still trying to confirm that WordPress is my new registrar, but that may take 72 hours to happen, and we’re still inside that timeframe, so I’m not sure that I did EVERYTHING right myself. HTH
