Domain
-
I tried out the 60$ 2 years hosting plan and when that didn’t work out I canceled. The problem is that I used the claimed the free domain middletonstrange.com and when I canceled this domain is still registered. Did I have to wait for 1 year for this domain to expire or is there something WordPress could do to cancel this domain so I can register it under namecheap. Or could I transfer the domain? The problem is that I no longer see the domain under my domains even though it redirects people to my site.
I would like middletonstrnage.com to either be transferred or canceled as I want to use this domain on other services.

Hi there!
There are two ways you can use the domain again:
- Wait for about a week for the domain to be released into the market. Since you canceled the domain within the refund period, the domain will be removed and released from our side in about a week. However, note that when it’s available again, anyone can register it. So there’s no guarantee that you’ll be able to get it again with another registrar.
- Pay just for the domain. The .com domain registration costs $19/year (the price is in USD). If you’d like, we can email you the payment link. Once you’ve paid, we can restore the domain to your WordPress.com account so that you can use custom nameservers to point the domain to your external host.
We suggest this method to make sure you don’t lose the domain. You will be able to transfer the domain registration to another registrar after 60 days, but you’ll also be able to use the domain with your other host in the meantime. So you won’t have to wait.
Please let us know how you’d like to proceed.
I’d also love to have your feedback about what led you to move your site away from WordPress.com. Is there anything we could have done better or any feature you needed for your site that wasn’t available on WordPress.com?
Thanks!
