domain

    Dear WordPress Team,

I have bough a domain (molnarde.hu) and I redirected it to my wordpress blog (molnarde.wordpress.com). However, I would like to hide my WP URL from visitors, i.e. when they see an article under the url molnarde.wordpress.com/category/article, I’d like them to see molnarde.hu/category/article. Is this option included/available in any of your upgraded packages? Thank you, Dávid

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi Dávid,

What you’re looking for is called Domain Connection, and it’s available on WordPress.com. All our paid plans include the Domain Connection feature and you can find more detailed information on how to set this up here: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/

Additionally, for an even smoother experience, you can transfer your domain to WordPress.com. This way, you can manage both your domain and your site from the same dashboard. If you choose to upgrade to one of our plans, the transfer of your domain will be completely free. Plus, we’ll also renew your domain for an additional year at no extra cost. For more details on this process, please visit: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/incoming-domain-transfer/

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to ask. We’re here to help.

    Hi fstat,

Thank you for your answer and providing different methods. However, when I try the first one (connecting a domain), it says: “Transfer your domain. We don’t support transfers for domains ending with .hu, but you can connect it instead.” When I try connecting, it says that it costs 81.000 thousand HUF a year, which is a bit high for me.

I also tried the second method, but it says, my domain must be at least 60 days old. I registered it today.

Is there any other ways to find a solution?

  • Hi @ftdmqccync, that plan is great if you need plugins, but if you just hope to connect your domain, the Personal plan will work nicely. It’s quite a bit less per year, and it gets rid of our ads, too:

I’ve added a coupon as well.

When you pay for it, you’ll have the option to add a domain as well. You can skip that (or register another domain if you’d like; up to you). The domain connection for your .hu domain will be free. You’ll just need to keep it renewed through your existing registrar.

Let us know if you need more help!

@supernovia Thank you so much for the coupon, I just purchased the Personal package. I started connecting my domain, WP says it might take up to 72 hours. I’ll keep you updated with the results.

@supernovia I am back with the updates: I connected my domain, WP says it is Active. I also set the name servers (ns1.wordpress.com, etc.).

Now when I try to load my site (molnarde.hu or molnarde.wordpress.com), it shows an error saying Load cannot follow more than 20 redirections.

  • Hi @ftdmqccync! It’s working for me now. If you’re seeing “too many redirects” it may not have fully propagated for you just yet.

You might have some luck, though, with clearing your browser cache and then quitting and restarting the browser. That can clear out any vestigates of the old site stuff in your browser, and may well clear the redirect error for you. Here’s how to clear it:

How to Solve Common Browser Issues

Some issues that you encounter with your WordPress.com site or account can be solved by changing your browser settings, refreshing the page, or clearing the browser cache and cookies. Supported Browsers Some browser issues may be caused by the browser itself. For optimal viewing and security we recommend that you use an up-to-date version of any of the following browsers: Google Chro

If that doesn’t work, I’d recommend leaving it for a few hours. Try a different connection, too; I bet you’ll find it’s working there. Sometimes the connection and computer you’re working on will be the last to catch up with the changes.

But again, I can confirm it’s working here and got this vegan drooling. Excellent work!

  • Hi there,

Now when I try to load my site (molnarde.hu or molnarde.wordpress.com), it shows an error saying Load cannot follow more than 20 redirections.

This is to be expected, and will likely clear up on it’s own.

To explain, there is a process called “propagation” where information about the domain change is updated world-wide. This process can take up to 24+ hours (though usually much less) and during that time you may see odd behavious, like warning message in your browser about “redirect errors”, a blank white screen, etc..

Unfortunately, we have no control over this as it all depends on how often your internet service provider updates their records. Please rest assured that everything is proceeding normally with your domain.

If you still have trouble viewing the site after 72 hours has passed, please try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies:http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clear-your-cache-and-cookies

If that doesn’t work, try clearing your local DNS cache:http://www.opendns.com/support/article/68

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
