I have my domain blog.partua.com in hostrentable.com. I already did the re-direction of this address to blogpartua.wordpress.com and paid the 13 USD to get the blog.partua.com as my primary domain but when I go to the domains I get an error screen!
    How can I fix this??
    Please help!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Can you make sure that you’ve set the CNAME for partua.com as explained here?

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-subdomain/#instructions-for-mapping-subdomains

After that is set correctly, you should be able to change the primary domain on your account. The initial load of the subdomain may return a redirect loop. However, clearing your browser cache should fix that error. Instructions can be found here:

    Solve Common Browser Issues

Can you give that a try?

    Hi Jeremy!
Thank you for your quick answer. I already did what you said.

I went to hostrentable.com and re-directed blog.partua.com to blogpartua.wordpress.com –> That works fine. Every time I type the domain: blog.partua.com it redirects to blogpartua.wordpress.com.

Today, I paid to use my subdomain in wordpress.com and set this new subdomain as my primary one.

Now when I type the address an error appears which says the domain has to many re-directs.

    How can I fix this?

    Hi there,

It doesn’t look like the CNAME record is currently in place for partua.com. Here’s the terminal response I get when I dig your domain:

    ; <<>> DiG 9.8.3-P1 <<>> partua.com
    ;; global options: +cmd
    ;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 4669
;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0

    ;; QUESTION SECTION:
    ;partua.com. IN	A

    ;; ANSWER SECTION:
    partua.com. 14272	IN	A	199.168.185.214

Part of the Answer section should read:

    blog.partua.com -> blogpartua.wordpress.com

Can you double-check at your Registrar as explained here?

    Hi Jeremy!
The CNAME you mention.. is it the same thing to say I re-direct the domain blog.partua.com to the domain blogpartua.wordpress.com?
if not, I do not understand what I should require Host Rentable (my hosting provider for the domain). I already spoke to them and they do not know what the CNAME is.
BTW I already paid the amount I require to use my domain and can’t use it. I think this should be explained before you pay!
    Please help

    Hi there,

I understand; I went ahead and pushed the expiration of your Domain Mapping upgrade to 6/30/15 as a result of the trouble we’re having getting your subdomain to work.

To answer your question, the CNAME record can sometimes be referred to as redirecting, but it’s not necessarily the same thing. The CNAME is a record that basically tells your domain (partua.com) to redirect blog.partua.com to blogpartua.wordpress.com. When this isn’t in place, the domain doesn’t know where blog.partua.com should point.

Can you pass the following along to your registrar?

    Hi there,

In order for blog.partua.com to work correctly with WordPress.com, I need to add a CNAME record to partua.com. The CNAME needs to be as follows:

    CNAME blog.partua.com alias of blogpartua.wordpress.com

That should give them the information they need to make this happen!

    Jeremy
Thanks for your message and for pushing the expiration date to 6/30/15. Let me check it once more with Host Rentable.com!
    Ill let you know!

    Hi Belén,

Not a problem! I want to get this up and running for you. Please let me know what you find out, and if you need anything else from me.

    Jeremy
    Thank you for your email.
I just received an email from Host Rentable. They did what you said so I went to WordPress Store- My Domains and clicked in the domain blog.partua.com and set to be the primary one.
I realised this is not what I should do because Now a screen appears which says my webpage has a redirect loop.

    Can you please help me?
    Thank you

    Hi Belén,

It looks like we’re still having some trouble with the CNAME record. Take a look at these two results:

    Screen Shot 2014 07 09 at 2 36 46 PM

The top result is a CNAME search for blog.partua.com. The results don’t return anything. On the bottom, you’ll see a CNAME search for blog.groovydomains.net, which is a test domain I have. You can see it returns a CNAME result since I have a subdomain mapped.

I used the following tool to create these results:

    http://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?action=cname

Can you pass this along to the Host Rentable team?

I really appreciate your help with this. I realize this is a frustrating process!

Jeremy Thank you so much for your patience and help!!
    It is very frustrating indeed.
We took one advantage of this situation, not being able to map blog.partua.com for almost two weeks now… and we would like to know if we can switch the domain and use my domain mag.partua.com ?
I would like to send your answer you send me below (re. the tool to make CNAMEs) and the new CNAME they should make. Can you please tell me this new CNAME then?
    Thank you in advance!!!
    Best
    Belén

    Hi Belén!

We can definitely use the subdomain mag.partua.com. The CNAME you’ll want to use is the following:

    CNAME mag.partua.com alias of blogpartua.wordpress.com

We’ll also want to change the domain mapping at WordPress.com. Just to confirm, would you like me to cancel the domain mapping for blog.partua.com? That way, you can map the new subdomain. Just reply back to confirm!

    Jeremy
    How are you?
I am writing to you re. my Domain because I just found out it is not possible to avoid using blogpartua.wordpress.com unless I pay the new domain through wordpress.
Can I change my payment from the 13 use (to use my domain) to 18 usd and generate a new domain through Wordpres??
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Belén

    Hi Belén,

I can definitely refund your payment for you so you can register a domain. I just want to be sure we’re on the same page first. What domain are you trying to register at WordPress.com? Are you trying to register partua.com? That domain is already registered elsewhere (I believe by you):

    http://www.who.is/whois/partua.com

Are you going to setup a new domain?
