  I want to change the name of my site (i guess that’s what it is called) from what I’m understanding I need to pay to do that and add privacy – is that correct?

  Were you wanting to register your own domain name (myownname.com)? If that is the case, the link below is a good place to start to find out the steps you need to take to register a new domain and it also gives you information on Public vs. Private domains:

  However, if you are looking for directions to change your current name to myownname.wordpress.com, then the link to the instructions are below.

  On that file though it mentions that if its an older, established site, “when you change the address is that permalinks, search engine results will be broken” so this is something to keep in mind. You might want to consider a site redirect upgrade to help if you ever have to do this again in the future.
