Domain about to expire, ICANN-locked – any way to unlock it and transfer it out?
-
Hi! As the title indicates, I would like to transfer out this domain, recetasdefamilia.blog, to Namecheap where I have a VPS. I already paid there, but I found out it’s locked until October. The domain will expire in September, and I don’t want to pay an entire year just for a few days here.
Pretty much the same situation as in this thread.
So, my question is: is there any reasonable way to unlock the domain before it expires, so I can transfer it out without having to pay an entire year for just a few days here? I need to set it up over Namecheap for full control over the DNS registers, and also be able to use subdomains, etc.
I’d really appreciate any help.

Hi @mardukq,
You don’t need to wait for your domain to expire before transferring it to another registrar. You can follow the steps outlined here to prepare your domain for transfer:
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/transfer-domain-registration/#step-1-prepare-the-domain-transferPlease note that a domain transfer can take up to 5 days to complete. If you’d like to host your site on your VPS right away, you can instead point your name servers to your VPS by following these steps:

Thank you for reaching out!
