Domain address

When I was setting up my site, I accidentally included the ‘com’ portion in my domain name. So now my address reads —com.wordpress.com. I realized this after I had already starting adding content and design to my site.

However, I had also set up a site under the domain name I truly desired (without the ‘com’ part). Since I had nothing on that site, I decided to delete the domain I really wanted to then make it available so that I could change the accidental one that I had spent so much time on.

But now when I try to switch the domain name, WordPress tells me that the domain is not available. I tried to switch the name immediately after deleting my old domain, and again about a week later, and it still tells me that it’s unavailable. Any suggestions?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi @ggredcay

    I’d be happy to help!

I see that though that the domain you put down that you need help with is live and active, am I safe to assume you are asking about a different domain?

What is that domain that you cancelled so I can double check to make sure there is no way to obtain it?

When you delete or cancel a domain with any registrar, the domain then goes into a waiting period which usually means it’s not available again for reuse https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/cancel-domain/
(This will also happen if you don’t renew the domain name quick enough before it expires every year)

The good news is that the waiting period usually only lasts a few weeks! So once I have the domain that you deleted and I can double check that we can’t grab it, then you will only have to wait a few weeks before being able to purchase it.

    Let me know!

    Thank you

    Hi @ggredcay,

It looks like you have deleted this domain
    tasteandseelancaster.wordpress.com
and then created another which is tasteandseelancastercom.wordpress.com

    Please read this
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/

If you choose to go with Custom Domain then you can get it one by upgrading to your WordPress.com plan you get free credit to use a domain in each of the Upgraded plans.
”Custom domain is a domain without ending .wordpress.com”
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

Or the second option would create a new website if you don’t want the name you have used already mistakenly.

Let me know if this helps.

    Thank you for your responses!

Yes, I accidentally created and added content to the domain tasteandseelancastercom.wordpress.com when I really wanted tasteandseelancaster.wordpress.com. Good to know that it could take a couple weeks for the domain name I deleted (tasteandseelancaster.wordpress.com) to become available again.

At this point and time I am not looking to purchase a custom domain, so I’ll keep trying every couple of days to see if the domain name becomes available again.

    Thanks again for your help!

    Hi @ggredcay,

Have you read this in the above link which I have mentioned already.

Sites already deleted by their authors two or more years ago may become available again, if they present no username or other technical conflicts. Do you see a deleted site with an address you would like to have? You can try registering a new site with that address here. If it is available, it will be yours.

    Best Wishes.
