Domain already mapped to a wordpress site

    I have a new blog which I have set up this week on wordpress, the url is https://paolocassarmanghi.wordpress.com/

    I bought the “.com” for €18, but I refunded it because I realised I needed to get one of the 4 plans instead. I chose the Personal Plan for €48/year.

    Then I went to choose the same domain ending “.com” as before, and I got the error “This domain is already mapped to a wordpress.com site”.

    Any help please?

    Hi Paolo,

    Cancelled domains are not released immediately, and it can take anything from a few days to over a year before a cancelled domain becomes available again, if at all. You should never cancel a domain that you still want to use, as there’s no guarantee that you’ll be able to use it again somewhere else in future. You should only cancel a domain if you’re completely sure you no longer want it at all.

    Luckily in this case we can still restore it to your account, and I’ve done that now :)

    This is true of any domain at any domain provider, by the way. So always be very careful when cancelling a domain, and make sure that’s really what you want to do.
