Hi there,
Do I understand this right, I can’t transfer my domain from Godaddy to wordpress? I have to map it?
Correct. We are not able to accept incoming domain transfers, so you will need to leave the domain registered with GoDaddy, and connect it here using the domain mapping upgrade.
Use a Domain You Already Own (Domain Mapping)
If i go premium can I run affiliate ads on it or just wordpress ads?
We don’t allow advertising networks other than our own WordAds program on WordPress.com site. So you won’t be able to, for example, use Google AdSense. But if you purchase a Premium Plan you’re automatically eligible to activate WordAds on your site.
We do allow affiliate links, but only provided they are relevant to the content on your site. If the main purpose of your site is to drive traffic to affiliate networks, it won’t be allowed here. You can find more information here:

OK, thanks alot for getting back to me. I will check it out. One more thing, without looking at domain mapping yet will that slow my site down or show in the browser that “you’re being redirected”?
Thanks again for your time. -
Whether you map a domain here, or register one directly with us, we redirect your free *.wordpress.com domain to the custom domain using a 301 redirect. But this is done completely behind the scenes, and as it’s just a redirect on the address, not a redirect to a different server, there are no warning messages, lag, or anything else that will tell your visitors that’s even happening. As far as anyone viewing your site will be concerned, your site has always been at that custom domain. They won’t even know the free address exists.

One last thing I hope, sorry.
I upgraded and changed the DNS settings, looks OK but I wanted to keep my blog the way it is or was (email visible only to moderators and staff) and make a website with roboeamerican.com . So, would I make the blog the primary? Before I go and make changes and mess something up thought I’d ask.
Thanks again! -
I’m not sure I understand. The only reason to have domain mapping is to have your WordPress.com site appear at your domain.
Are you saying you don’t want robertsthoughts2.wordpress.com to appear at your domain, roboeamerican.com? If that’s not what you want, then there’s no reason for you to buy the domain mapping upgrade.
If you want to use your domain with a different site, you first need to create a new free site, and then map the domain to that site instead. All WordPress.com sites start out with a free *.wordpress.com address. You cannot have a site here without that.

Yes, I don’t want to lose my blog. I want to make a whole new site with the new domain. I upgraded to personal and later will go to premium. So if start to make whole new site will my blog disappear? Will it still be there at robertsthoghts2.WordPress.com?
-
Your existing site won’t disappear if you create a new site. It won’t be affected at all – it will be two completely separate sites.
You can create a new site here:
https://wordpress.com/start/site/
Select only a free domain and the free plan, and then let me know and I can move the Personal Plan and Domain Mapping you’ve already bought over to the new site for you.

Ok, great. Think I got it. https://exampl76602.wordpress.com/2017/03/12/new/
Thanks very much for everything. Used to blog at blogger and years ago made websites on godaddy and had nothing but problems and suport sucked. Really been enjoying wordpress and all it has to offer and the support is the best I’ve encountered.
Thanks again very much!!! -
I’m happy to help :)
I’ve moved your plan and the domain over to the new site, so your old site is back to using only the free domain.
Also note that your Personal Plan gives you access to live chat support should you need help with anything again in future. You can access chat, provided we have an operator available, here:
