I have purchased a domain name and hosting from Crazy domains. Every time I try to connect my new domain name, it asks me for a plan from WordPress. I didn’t think there was another charge.

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The only way to connect a custom domain to your site is with a paid plan. WordPress has started a new $5 per month Starter plan billed annually, however you need to consider you’ll be required to display ads on your website with that plan, and spam is a high potential since it also does not include Jetpack essentials. There are also many other things you may consider important that is not included on that plan. You see what is not included on the pricing page https://wordpress.com/pricing

The Pro plan is more expensive at $180 a year but will mit require you to display ads, and all features are included.

Then unless you want to use your domain name on willogardening.wordpress.com, you don’t need a plan from WordPress.com, which is also a web hosting provider like Crazy domains.

However, if you are installing the Jetpack plugin on your Crazy domain WordPress website, whether the free version or the paid upgrade, you do need a WordPress.com account. Here’s a guide that explains why. https://jetpack.com/2018/04/12/why-wordpress-account-jetpack/

Just in general, this support forum you’ve posted to assists users hosted on WordPress.com, the hosting provider. WordPress.com is a service that hosts WordPress sites, powered by Automattic. WordPress.org is a community where people work on the open source WordPress software. It’s also where that software can be downloaded to be run on your own web server. You can read more about these differences at https://wordpress.org/support/article/wordpress-vs-wordpress-com/

For future reference, if you need help using the WordPress software, head over to https://wordpress.org/support/ where you’ll find documentation and users who have more experience with the software you are using. If you don’t have a username on the ORG forums you can register one on the top of that page.

Hope that helps but if you have other questions about this, please post back here.
