Domain and hosting question

  I would like to purchase my own domain and host my blog elsewhere (but still use wordpress.ORG). Is there a way to direct traffic to the new site from (email visible only to moderators and staff)? Is that what mapping is?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  No, that would be a redirect, but it uses the domain mapping upgrade and a trick: http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/redirecting-your-blog/ .
