Domain and New Site

  Instead of editing our existing website I want to create a new website and then transfer the domain/URL to the new site. Both our existing site and the new one will be on wordpress. Just want to do major re-organizing and that’s easiest if I just make a new one.

  Hi there,

  Can you please provide specifics? I don’t see any domains in your account, so are you speaking of a custom domain, or the free WordPress.com address?

  The site you indicated, coloradopeoplesalliance.org, belongs to a different user, lizethcopa, and only that user can request that we transfer the custom domain and plan to a different site or account.

  lizethcopa is our Executive Director. So would she need to transfer that custom domain to me first? Or would I be able to transfer the new website to her for her to transfer the domain?

  Do you want to use the domain with a new site in your account, or in her account?

  If a new site in her account, she’ll need to contact us once she’s created a new free address, and then I can move the domain and Premium Plan over to the other site in her account. She can then again add you as an admin on the site to allow you to manage it.

  If a new site in your account, she’ll need to transfer the domain to your account first, following the instructions here:

  Transfer a Domain to Another WordPress.com Account

  Next, you need to create a new free site in your account, and then let me know so I can move the domain to the new site for you.

  Last, I’ll need lizethcopa to confirm that we can also move the Premium Plan over to the new site in your account.

  In both scenarios you can create the new site via this link:

  https://wordpress.com/start/site/

  Select only a free address and a free plan, as your existing Premium Plan and domain will be applied to the site.

  Another thing to consider is that the live chat support in the Premium Plan is only available to the upgrade owner, so if you’re responsible for the management of the site, it perhaps makes the most sense for you to own the plan, but that’s something you need to discuss among yourselves.
