Domain and plan questions

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi there, I’m just finally setting up my WordPress site, and transferring images from my former Illustration site. I moved my domain name (www.bobdoucet.com) to WP. My question is, I also want to sell my new CD, and/or often downloads, info on tour dates, etc., so my site is serving 2 functions, Illustration and Music. Should I have 2 domain names (although my CD also lists http://www.bobdoucet.com as contact info) and should I subscribe to the Business Package to facilitate sales? Thanks for your help!

    Hello Bob!

You can sell items on a non-Business site with a PayPal button. As long as the products/services are created by/owned by you, this is fine to do. However, you cannot have a shopping cart on your site without a Business upgrade. Purchases would have to all be individually made. Here is information about adding a PayPal button to a WordPress.com site:

For a full-service business site that increases sales, and allow more tools for you and your customers, here is more information about a Business site:
    https://wordpress.com/business/

You can choose either path, depending on your needs. You can even change your mind and upgrade down the road, if you’d like.

If you have other questions at all about this, please do let me know. Many thanks!

Thanks, Robyn! As long as I can use Paypal, that should be fine for now! One thing I’m curious about, though, is I have friends in Canada, the US, and the UK, who may (or may not) be interested in the CD, and I’d have to adjust the CD price and shipping for each country, which doesn’t seem to be easily done on Paypal. If you have any ideas, I’d love to hear them – thanks again!

    Hey there,

Bob, due to the limitations you might find in PayPal, you may have to add that notice to your site. Ie, “Shipping to XXCOUNTRYXX may incur an extra charge. For more information, please contact me here XXCONTACTLINKXX.”

You can also create a different button for EU, US, CA purchasers. Each button would go to the appropriate PayPal link according to country.

Also, I’m not certain if this will help or not, but PayPal does offer this tool for shipping conversion:
    https://www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/get-started/shipping-calculator

I hope this gives you some good ideas about how to proceed. Let me know! Thanks again!

Thanks Robyn, that’s good to know! Up until now my site has been a means to showcase my illustration for art directors and publishers (I’m a freelance illustrator) but I’ve always loved music and, after putting out a CD a little while ago and playing at a pub while in the UK (as well as venues here) decided to pursue that side more.

    Bob,

That is super exciting. I’m glad you’re getting even more of your art out into the world…visual AND sonic!

Wishing you all the best of luck for smashing sales! :)

Hi Robyn, Could you please delete my content so I could start fresh? I should have read a couple of the tutorials before getting too involved. Thanks!

    Hi there!

It appears as if you may have already deleted most of the content from bobdoucet.wordpress.com. Did you still need assistance with this?

If you still need to remove any of your content, you can follow the instructions found here:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/empty-site/

That will do the trick! :)
