Domain and upgrades…

    Hi,

I am very frustrated with Word Press. After spending all weekend creating my new blog before school starts on Monday, I realize that the .com account I have is basically worthless, and I cant even do a simple Face Book ‘Like’ plug in button on it… (who would have thought)? I wish you guys would have indicated that upfront because I probably would have gone with the next level up from the start..

In any event, I am stuck with what I’ve got, and now In looking to upgrade so I can get plug ins… But I have a couple questions about doing this, and all of this stuff is extremely confusing to me so please make it as easy as possibly, sending screen shots and the like so I can see exactly what I need to do and where to go… (alternatively, is there someone available to do this for me?) Because just telling me what to do is not comprehensible to me because I don’t understand the lingo with respect to website building…

Anyway, my first question is; I have a domain name hosted by NameCheap.com, can I use that domain here for my blog and if so how do i do that?

Secondly, if I upgrade so I can utilize the plug ins, will I be able to use the current free template I’ve designed or will I have to design an entirely new template and loose all the content i put into the original one?

    Thanks,
    Cyndi

Yes. You need to set up Domain Mapping, included with the WordPress.com Premium plan.

Secondly, if I upgrade so I can utilize the plug ins,

While plugins are common on self hosted WordPress sites, due to security concerns, they are not available on WordPress.com. There is more info regarding WordPress.com and plugins here:

and I cant even do a simple Face Book ‘Like’ plug in button on it…

If I do upgrade, do I have to pick a new template or can I use the free one I’ve already spent time creating?

  • You do not have to pick a new theme. Your site can stay looking exactly the same if you wish.
