domain and website
-
Hi, I registered my domain name through godaddy and i have created a website through webhosting. How do I change it to wordpress, as I think it will be a better. I am creating things myself and I am not proficient at this, so it is all a learning curve. Thanks

Hi @trainingsolutionskilkenny, could you send a link to your site? We’ll take a look and see if we can make a recommendation for transferring it to WordPress.

Hi,
Thank you.
Yes of course. It’s http://www.trainingsolutionskilkenny.com
The hosting site is FREEHOSTING on cpanel.freehosting.com
Kind regardsJeanette

Thanks for that, Jeanette.
What you’ll want to do is create a new site here, on WordPress.com. You can use the free subdomain for now and just map or transfer your current domain when you’re ready:
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/#add-a-domain-name
If you have the possibility to export your content into an xml file, you’ll be able to import it, as explained here:
https://wordpress.com/support/import/
If that’s not possible, you can manually create your pages and copy-paste the content. With our Block Editor, you’ll be able to style your pages easily. Have a look here on how it works:
https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/
Let me know if you have any more questions regarding that.

So, I’m reading the info on adding and mapping. Which one do I need?
I have a website with you already http://www.trainingsolutionskilkeeny.wordpress.com
My domain name I have I do not have to pay annually for it as I made a once off purchase

You’ll probably want to map the domain as explained here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
To be able to do so, however, you’ll need one of our paid plans. You can read more about our plans here:
https://wordpress.com/pricing/
If you do not wish to upgrade at the moment, you’re welcome to keep the free subdomain trainingsolutionskilkeeny.wordpress.com.

Hm, I’d make sure of that with your current registrar as domains renew each year. You can see here that your domain will expire in July:

Thanks so much for that. I will look into it.
In relation to the paid plans. This is what I want to do, but I’m not sure what plan I will need.
I want to advertise myself on a website like the one I have, but I would like it to look better and be more professional. I would like to be able to design online courses and put them up for people to enrol in and receive a certificate of completion for. Is this something that can be done through wordpress?

Yes. Depending on the size and detail of the course, the number of attendees, etc will dictate the best option for you.
I’d start with our personal plan. It’s the cheapest option to get you started and if you need to upgrade later on for additional functionality and features you can do it at that time.
