http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/register-domain/Basically, it’s 18$/year/blog for your own domain name, and personally, I find it easier to buy it straight from WordPress since you don’t need to worry about mapping it, it just works!

what about hosting and all that?
ppl tell me i need host gator but im not sure why i need this mass of tools?
i would like a million hits a month for example- wordpress doesnt handle that kind of traffic? -
All WordPress.com websites are hosted by WordPress, on their own servers. Those servers can handle pretty much whatever you can throw at them as far as traffic, so I wouldn’t be worried from that point of view! If you think about it, they run site like CNN, TED, TechCrunch…

Exactly! Simply follow the instructions here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/register-domain/Once you do that, it usually takes less then 24 hours for the domain name to become active and it will automatically bring viewers to your WordPress blog. Note also that the old link (http://changeinadvance.wordpress.com/) will still work.
