Domain cancellation
-
I mistakenly signed up for a wordpress.com account today when I really needed one with wordpress.org. I cancelled my registration but my domain is still unavailable – when will it be available again so I can use it to sign up for a new account?
Thanks for any help!

Hi there,
Canceled domains are not released immediately and there is no guarantee they’ll become available to register somewhere else.
You can find more information here – https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/cancel-domain/
I’m tagging this thread with “modlook” tag for staff assistance as they’ll be able to help you better with this.
Hope this helps

Okay thanks! I just noticed that something was added to my post noting which blog I needed help with but that is incorrect.

Hi there,
That domain should be released by the weekend, at which point you should be able to register it somewhere else.
We can also still restore the domain to your account here, but as you’ve already been refunded you’ll need to pay for the domain again before we can do that. We have no way of manually releasing the domain immediately.
Also note that you don’t need to have a WordPress.org account to have a WordPress.org site. The WordPress.org website is simply the place where the open source WordPress community develop and support that software, and you only need an account on WordPress.org if you want to post in their forums for support or contribute to the software yourself.
To have a WordPress.org site you need a hosting account with a hosting provider like Pressable or Bluehost. Then you can install the WordPress software on their servers and use that to build your site.

If I pay for the domain again through my WordPress account, is it possible to then transfer it to Bluehost?
How do I do that?

Hi –
Yes, there are 2 options to go forward with this domain.
1. We restore it on WordPress.com. You’ll get an email from us with a payment form for it. Then, you can update the name servers and point it to BlueHost.
2. Wait until the domain is released and register it with BlueHost or place of your choice.

Thanks, we’ve just sent a payment request your way. As soon as you’ve paid that, update us here and we’ll restore the domain. If the domain is released already by then, we’ll refund you.

Yes, now you can point the domain to BlueHost. To do that, you’ll edit the name servers on the domain. It will remain registered with WordPress.com, but all that means is that it is registered with us. You can point it to any service you like through changes in the DNS records.
Here are the instructions to follow. If you have trouble getting things configured, just let me know which name servers BlueHost wants you to use and I can add them to the domain.
