  • Unknown's avatar

I WANT TO CANCEL MY DOMAIN I FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS AND TRIED TO GO THE SUBSCRIPTION STATUS BUT I COULD ONLY SEE THE CANCELLATION LINK INSTEAD OF THE SEEING THE CANCEL DOMAIN LINK. THIS REASON WHY I WANT TO CANCEL MY DOMAIN IS BECAUSE AM HAVING A HARD TIME TO LINK MY DOMAIN TO MY 4ORMAT WEBSITE.

    Hi there,

Which specific domain do you wish to cancel? If you can tell me which domain you want cancelled, I can take care of that for you. Please be aware that if you purchased it more than 48 hours ago, it will not be eligible for any sort of refund.

Please also keep in mind that once a domain name is cancelled it cannot be gotten back. It will be returned to the registry who will hold on to it for several days up to several weeks and will eventually release it to the general public, any of whom may register it if they so desire.

If you still want to cancel your domain, please let me know which one and I will proceed!

The reason why I want to cancel my domain name is so I can use the same domain else where because am really having a hard time to link my domain name to format website. Now if canceling the domain name is not going to allow me to use my own domain which I registered how is that fair. Because the whole point am canceling is so I can be able to link it to my website unless you can link to my website.

    Hi there,

Which website are you trying to link it to? If you have the nameservers, CNAME, or IP address for another website, I can walk you through the changes that need to be made.

In regards to the domain not being available immediately, that is how the domain market works. We would happily release it for immediate repurchase, however it is not something over which we have any control.

Am trying to it to http://www.pedaiahswankjohn.4ormat.com/. Here are the name servers for 4ormat:

    Name Server IP
    ns1.dnsimple.com 184.106.214.131
    ns2.dnsimple.com 173.230.131.235
    ns3.dnsimple.com 66.220.0.169
    ns4.dnsimple.com 50.112.128.56

If you want to view the DNS records you can see them in this link http://cdn.who.is/dns/4ormat.com.
Normally how long does it take for a domain to be available after been cancelled?

  • You can change your domain’s name servers at any time following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/change-name-servers/

If we cancel the domain, it will become the property of our registrar partner, and will be returned to the public market at their discretion. We have no control over the process, but I have seen it take up to 90 days.

I changed my name servers last night to point to to my 4ormat website but the link is still not working?

  • pedaiahswankjohn.com is properly directed away from us, but the destination is not actually routing it anywhere.

You’ll need to contact your hosting provider about this.

    Greetings bro,
I spoke to format support and this is what they told me to inform you. The problem is that we don’t have nameservers. If you entered “ns1.4ormat.com” or something like that, it doesn’t exist.

Here’s a quotable you can deliver to your tech support team over at WordPress. Hopefully it will clear up any confusion they have as to the nature of our service, so we can speed this process up for you.

“4ormat does not use any nameservers, and is a SaaS (Software as a Service) application using widely accepted methodology for domain connection. They are a cloud-based service along lines of Tumblr, Shopify, etc.. The way their service is connected to a domain is twofold: first, through a CNAME record created at the domain registrar i.e. WordPress/Automattic on the www address (i.e. http://www.example.com)

Secondly, a 301 static redirect points the naked domain to the www subdomain, ensuring visitors to both addresses are appropriately directed to the 4ormat site, while preserving the MX records and retaining mail functionality.”

If they have any questions, please forward them along and I’ll be happy to assist.

  • In that case then, you’ll need to first point the domain back to us: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/change-name-servers/

    Our name servers are:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

Then, ask Format for the exact DNS records they need and place them in your Custom DNS panel: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/custom-dns/

    Greetings,
Here is the feedback they gave me, can you please kindly help me cause am not sure which part to paste on the DNS panel because their is more than one thing they stated we need to do. This is what they required us to do.
The DNS record required is a CNAME record on the www address, with the value “4ormat.com”. In a console, this would look like:

    pedaiahswankjohn.com 14400 IN CNAME 4ormat.com

Then, they’ll need to create a 301 static redirect via .htaccess which will look like:

    Options +FollowSymLinks
    RewriteEngine on

    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^pedaiahswankjohn.com$

    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.pedaiahswankjohn.com/$1 [R=permanent,L]

Looking forward for your quick response.
    Regards

  • The .htaccess redirect can’t be done, as we are not a traditional hosting provider.

Could you ask them if there’s an A Record that we could direct your domain to instead?
