Domain Cancellation Pending
-
Hi,
I just recently purchased a domain strait from WordPress (not from HostGator or something), and upon further research, I want to go to wordpress.org.
It is still within the 48 hours (I bought the domain yesterday), and just cancelled it and awaiting a refund. However, it has been saying “Cancellation Pending” for quite some time now.
I just wanted to know how long it will take for the domain to be cancelled and for me to get a refund.
Also, will the domain (beneath-the-water.com) be available on other web hosters, such as HostGator?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It can take from several days to a few weeks for a domain name to revert to the wild where it can be purchased by anybody after it has been canceled
You could have kept the domain name registered here and pointed the name servers to your new host
I will flag this for the staff if you want to see what options they can help you with – keep in mind that WordPress.COM has no control over when a domain name is released – that is up to the registrar

Yes, I considered doing that, but (I think) I will save money if I refund it and buy a package on HostGator.
If I keep my domain now, I will still have to buy a package from HostGator, which adds up to a total of about $25-$30. If I cancel and refund my domain now, I can buy the package and a domain for just about $10.
If I am wrong, please let me know.
What I actually want, is to get a self-hosted blog so I can monetize it. However, I don’t know how to do this without losing all my current posts, pages, followers, etc.
Please, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, and thank you for the reply.

Some hosts build the cost of the registration into the host costs – don’t know how Host Gator prices things – after 60 days you can also transfer the domain name to Host Gator so you only have one place to pay
Once you have your blog set up on Host Gator you can export your content from here and import the content to your new site –
Install jetPack on your new blog and ask the staff to transfer your email subscribers
Personally I never recommend letting a domain name go back to the wild – there is an entire industry devoted to buying expired domain names and holding them hostage

Ok thanks so much for the reply! Is there any way that I can cancel the “Cancellation”? It’s still pending. . .

Probably – the staff are the ones that can help with that –
I think that domain name cancellations are a two step process to make sure that a domain name is not cancelled by accident or if the person requesting the cancellation is asking for the correct solution
There are some timing issues with domain name cancellations – it is sort of like running down the hall trying to catch someone before they get out of the building

I flagged this way long ago for the staff to help you see the “modlook” in the sidebar – the staff check the forum on a regular basis, but I don’t know their schedule

The sidebar is where you added the ton of tags when you posted this – modlook is a tag that is used to flag a thread as needing attention from the moderators or staff
Note that each time you post to this thread you move to the back of the line again since the staff tend to work problems from oldest to newest
