Domain cancellation refund

Hi There, I just bought a personal plan today and registered a custom domain name (£30 for plan and domain) after trying to set up my blog, I realised I can’t upload custom themes on wordpress.com so found I need to register the domain with different host and use wordpress.org instead. I cancelled the personal plan and have had email confirmation that I will be refunded £8 (£30 minus the £22 domain fee) and this also shows in my purchases. I then went on to cancel the domain name, however in my wordpress purchases it does not show any detail of my domain refund £22. From reading the support threads I understood that if I cancelled within 48 hours of purchase then ALL costs (plan and domain) would be refunded. Please could you confirm this? I don’t want to have found out I’ve paid £22 for a domain I now no longer own.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Howdy littleorchardkitchen!
First you also have a option to Uploading Custom Theme
with WordPress.com, you need to be a Business Plan user to be able to do so, you get advantages of WordPress.org have a look here WordPress Com vs WordPress ORG

Also, about your refund, be assured you will be serviced correctly, I have tagged the staff for you to help you further. Someone will get in touch with you soon. Thank you for your patience..!

  • Hi there,

I then went on to cancel the domain name

You should not do this if you still want to use the domain. Cancelled domains are not released immediately, and once it is released anyone can buy it, so you run the risk of losing it.

In this case, your domain should become available again in a few days, so if you’re sure you want to wait for it to be released, let me know and I can process the refund.

Otherwise, I can restore the domain to your account and help you point it to a different provider. Once you’ve owned it for 60 days you can then transfer it away from us completely if you prefer.

Thanks all for your help, yes please could you go ahead and process the refund?

  • Done. You should receive the full refund amount in about 10 business days, depending on your bank :)
