Thank you for your message. Your domain has currently entered the redemption period.
This means the domain name can still be renewed, but a $80 redemption fee is required in addition to the normal renewal cost. This is standard practice for domain registrars, and you will not be able to renew the domain without paying that additional redemption fee.
I have sent you a link to make the required payment so we can recover the domain.
Once receive the payment, we will restore the domain to your account.

is the redemption fee still required even though it has not been more than 30 days since I cancelled? Also I paid $48 to upgrade I believe for one whole year, is that something that was necessary for me to do or no?

Yes, the redemption fee is required since the domain has been completely canceled. Your payment is for the annual Starter subscription, which included the domain for the first year. However, since the domain was canceled, it needs to be purchased again, including the redemption fee, if you would like to recover it.
Keep in mind that the domain is not guaranteed to become available for registration elsewhere, and you may not be able to get it back if you decide not to recover it at this point.
It takes about 90 days from the cancellation/expiry date for the domain to be available in the market again. During the 90 days, this domain will be auctioned, and see if anybody is interested in the domain. If no registrar is interested in picking it up, it will return to market.

Hi Thank you for getting back to me! So I just made a payment for the redemption fee but am still confused. Because I realized that I lost my domain, I paid $48 yesterday for the wordpress personal (new purchase) annual subscription for newspaceatberkeley.wordpress.com. is that something i needed to do as well to get my newspaceatberkeley.org domain back? or was paying the redemption fee of $99 all that i needed to do?
