Hi, I’ve been trying to change my domain name, I want to rebrand my blog. My last name is Magellan, as in Ferdinand Magellan. ‘The Strait of Magellan’ is named after him. And I want to start a blog that helps inspires people, so I figured ‘The Strait’ was quirky, catchy and meaningful. But it seems that it’s already taken. Now I have visited that blog on wordpress and have sent word to the author that I was interested in her domain. It seems that it hasn’t been used since July 2015. Almost 2 years ago. I doubt she will be in contact with me. I was wondering what else I could do? I really want to change my blog, I’ve never been as inspired to re-try blogging as I have been the last couple of weeks, thinking up names and logos and ideas. I finally found a name that connects with me. Please help me.

Hey! Creative idea you got there. However, unfortunately that domain will not be usable by anyone else, unless you were able to contact that blog’s owner and have her transfer the domain over to you. Perhaps coming up with a similar domain name that no one else owns will be your best bet. Hope something works out for you!

Hi there,
I can confirm what @thebud15 told you. We do not reassign site addresses under any circumstances. The only way to get that address is if the current owner transfers it to you, and it’s up to them if they’ll do that or not.
Recycling Blog Addresses (URLs)
Another option you can consider is to upgrade to the Personal Plan and register a custom domain. thestrait.blog, for example, is doubly quirky, if you ask me :)

Hi kokkieh, I have been in contact with her. Well, I left a comment in her the one blog post she made back in 2015 explaining my idea and why I wanted to make the change. She hasn’t messaged me back or even looked at my comment – that I can tell. Is there any other way I could get in contact with her that I just don’t know about by any chance?

If the current owner of the site hasn’t published contact information on the site there is no other way than leaving a comment. You can also look if they have any social media accounts linked on their site and try tweeting them, for example, but that’s the only option I can think of.
