Domain Change

  • Unknown's avatar

I have been trying for days to connect a godaddy domain that I own to my wordpress website. For some reason, wordpress is set up in the most complicated way and I cannot find where this is done. I have watched countless tutorials trying to figure it out and nothing has helped. I have already gone into my dashboard and checked where it should say ‘upgrades’ where you then should be able to connect a domain. For some reason, however, there is no ‘upgrades’ option where I can do this. I am at a total lost and frankly so frustrated and overwhelmed. Please help!

After searching for answers from wordpress support and them being of absolute no help at all when it comes to connecting domains – I thought I had figured it out and broke my website. In settings, it seemed like all i had to do was change the url to the name of my godaddy domain and when i did, it completey erased the website I have been working on for months. I’m devastated and completely at a loss. Is there a way to restore my website? please please help!!

    Hi there:

It looks like you might be working on your WordPress site that’s hosted with Bluehost? To avoid confusion, there are three different “WordPress” at play here:

    1. The free, open-source WordPress software which powers your website.
    2. WordPress.org which is the open-source project that works on the WordPress software and where you can get the software for free to use on your own hosting provider.
    3. WordPress.com which is a managed hosting provider of the WordPress software and with whom you’re contacting now.

Since your site is not hosted with us, we’re limited in what we can help with and advise. But I can get you pointed in the right direction to get help.

You should reach out to your host Bluehost for help with this issue. Since they’re hosting your site’s files, they also have access to those files and are the best ones to help you fix this problem with your domain. You can reach their support here:

    https://www.bluehost.com/contact

    I hope that helps!
