domain change after payment

    Hi!! I’ve been using the free version to create an updated website of the one I currently have. The business we purchased came with the website and its a coded website and needs a revamp. After a few months of using the free version i have decided to purchase a plan as I need to create plugins and more.

    I want to keep my previous website active until I am happy with the final results of the wordpress website, with that being said, can I use the domain i have chosen in wordpress and once I finalize everything can I then transfer my domain?

    Its my first time creating a website, so not entirely sure how this transfer works. Thank you for your time!!!

    Hi there,

    You can upgrade the free site you created with us, and continue working on the free address until you’re ready to take the existing site offline, yes. Then you only move the domain over to us at that point.

    Just a note that once you upgrade to Pro and install plugins, the free address will change from example.wordpress.com to example.wpcomstaging.com, but you’ll be able to continue working on the site just as before, and the wordpress.com version of the address will still work. It just won’t show in your browser.
