Domain change change

Hi, I am considering changing my website URL from https://time2transcend.wordpress.com to either changingtimesmedia.net or changingtimes.media. Could someone tell me if there is an advantage to using the .net extension. Also, do I need to wait to make the change at a downtime in my activity? (That is very rare!) I am a journalist and of course share my articles widely on social media and I wouldn’t want people to be unable to access them, even for a short time. Would people be redirected almost immediately or would there be a time lag? Many thanks, Annette

Using a .net vs .media extension is more of a personal preference than one having an advantage over another. Both TLDs you have mentioned are supported here on WordPress.com, https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#available-domains

Hi there,
It can take up to 72 hours for a new domain to work completely, but in most cases it should work within minutes of you registering the domain. And your site will still be accessible at the free address as well.
As for the type of domain, that’s completely up to you. .media is a fairly new one, and I like the ring of changingtimes.media, so personally I’d go with that one :)

Hi again, I was a bit concerned that I might lose rankings if I make the change now after using the current domain name for seven years, but am not sure if that really is the case. Thanks!
