Domain / CNAME issues

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I had a wordpress account linked to a GoDaddy domain account. We edited the domain (incorrectly it seems) and can no longer access out wordpress site or log in. GoDaddy support service says we need to find out CNAME records to reconnect the site to the domain. Firstly, should this be affecting our ability to log in on wordpress or are there other issues at play. Secondly, how do we find the CNAME without access to our wordpress account?

  • Hi,

Can you please confirm the url of your site so we best know how to assist you?

    Thank you.

    Howdy,

If you bought the domain from WordPress.com and haven’t transferred it elsewhere you will need access to the WordPress.com account to make changes to the site’s DNS.

If you bought and manage the domain elsewhere then please contact the host to manage the domain.

As @catkiinson so kindly pointed out, if you post the URL you need help with we can provide some additional details.

Hi guys, thanks so much for the help. Our URL is impetus.org.au
We bought it through GoDaddy but they can’t update our CNAME etc because we can’t get into our wordpress to find it out.

Is this common? Its saying our username doesnt exist.

  • Hi there,

Where is your WordPress site currently hosted at? Is it here at WordPress.com or at another hosting provider? If you’re on another hosting provider, then you need to talk to them about that.
