    Hello there,

    I guess the domain must be purchased for a year only, and it is billed annually.

    Yeah, as amiteshg93 mentioned above, you can only register a domain for one year at a time. If you leave the auto-renewal on, it will be renewed each year automatically.

    You can also manually renew it at any time.

    Bear in mind, also, that to use a custom domain as your primary address here on WordPress.com, you’ll want to also purchase one of our paid plans. With the annual plans, domain registration is free for the first year.
