Domain Concern

Hey guys,
So I was thinking up purchasing the bundle package and one of the perks is a custom domain name. Now what is the difference between this and registering on godaddy?
I hope to eventually make this a full time project and maybe develop some income, would registering through wordpress be a sufficient route?
Thank you everyone for your time!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.com blogs cannot be monetized as no blogger initiated advertising is allowed. If you intend to move your content into a WordPress.org install then purchase a domain name and domain mapping upgrade sooner rather than later. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/#instructions-for-mapping-an-existing-domain

Just read through that link a little bit.
Essentially, I feel that I have a good idea and want to ensure I receive complete credit. Do you think I would just be better taking the idea, coding it myself, and managing my own site?
I started at WordPress because my knowledge with coding is very restricted and I wanted to implement a good idea.
What do you think I should do if I feel I’m on to a great idea?
-
You don’t usually need to code on a WordPress.ORG install. You can move content from here to there by just exporting from here and importing in your other site once you have a different host – you only have a one day old site with not much content so pretty easy.
However if a WordPress.ORG install breaks you have to fix it yourself or hire someone to fix it. So there is a lot more responsibility with a WordPress.ORG install.

Ok, I’m slowly starting to get the idea.
So just so I’m clear, I can take the code off of here, export it somewhere else?

Purchasing a domain name and domain mapping for a free hosted WordPress.com blog does not result in changing anything other than exactly what the domain mapping upgrade states.
Important Notes Before Upgrading
Same Rules Apply – The Domain Mapping Upgrade does not enable the permission to use advertising, any kind of prohibited code, or upload additional themes or plugins. With the upgrade, your blog will still be hosted here at WordPress.com, which means that you will not have FTP access to your files and you will still be required to abide by our Terms of Service. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/#important-notes-before-upgradingno blogger initiated advertising, retailing or reselling the work created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed on free hosted wordpress.COM blogs. E-commerce transactions via shopping carts and the like cannot be conducted on free blogs from and being free hosted by wordpress.COM
The advertising exceptions noted in support documentation are for high traffic blogs that qualify for and are accepted into the Ad Control program, and for extremely high traffic blogs that qualify and are accepted into the paid VIP hosting program.

If you intend to have a monetized blog then you will need to hire a web host and set up a WordPress.org install. Then you will need to move the content (posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags) from your free hosted WordPress.com blog into that WordPress.org install by export and import.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/
Your links must be separately exported and imported.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/blogroll/import-export-links/
All content in your text widgets must be copied and pasted as it cannot be exported. Note also that themes cannot be exported from WordPress.com and used on WordPress.org installs as the two run on different software. -
I haven’t coded anything for my blog just worked around the theme. I just feel that if the idea takes off, I won’t get the credit

Now let’s take off the rose colored glasses and do a reality check.
In order to make a significant income from blogging you need to know how to write for the web and that’s not the same as writing for print media. You need to write extremely well and you need to comprehend ho fierce the competition to make money by blogging truly is. this is not a cake-walk. You need to be prepared to spend money to make money — that’s the way business works. What that means is if you are money orientated you need to hire a web host and set up your own monetized WordPress.org self hosted install. For self-hosting figure an average monthly total cost (including cost of a domain name) of about $10 to $25 generally, but that all depends on storage and bandwidth requirements. Most bloggers I know that take this route to make money via advertising do not make up for their hosting and domain registration costs, and with literally millions of people downloading and installing Adblock plus on their Firefox browsers each month, fewer and fewer people are seeing ads.
If you are an experienced WordPress.com software user, and have the skill sets required to set up and manage your own self hosted WordPress.org install then the instructions for making the move are easy to follow. But if you are not skilled at WordPress.com blogging, and also lack the skill sets required to self host your own WordPress.org install then acquiring those skills first is recommended. Thank you! I completely know it’s not a cake walk because I have much business experience (thank god)! I have a group of people ready to help out with not only ideas but with coding, finances, blogging, and other aspects.
Bus all this has really helped so much and I really appreciate it! Thanks everyone!

Why do you keep asking about “coding” just what do you want to code? Even on WordPress.ORG installs unless you have a very fancy site not much coding is done. Many people change the look of the Theme a bit with CSS or something – but “coding” if you don’t know what you are doing can crash your blog and / or open security holes large enough to drive a very large semi through sideways – (thanks @TSP for that image)

Your right, coding wouldn’t need to be done at all for what I am looking for. I stand corrected!

Going NUTS – please help!! Don’t like to be seen as a complainer, but included the many things I’ve tried below so I don’t waste your time suggesting those.
WHAT am I missing that everyone else seems to know – ’cause people seem to love WordPress, and if they could see it through my eyes they wouldn’t. The “rules” are very confusing to me – especially semantics miscommunications/”term” misunderstandings. I need to get back to making a living!
I am a global ADD expert, and my “product” is essentially info: MY books, ecourses, teleclasses, coaching, etc. So what’s ok to do from .com [Enterprise theme, customed for ADD needs] and what must wait until I have any time left in my WordPress day to begin it all again on my “self-hosted” [Thesis] blog. Help?
1. What does “blogger initiated” advertising mean? Can you give me some examples of what’s ok/what’s verbotten?
I get that I can’t sell anything that I don’t originate personally, but I can’t tell anybody that I sell anything??
LOL – That has GOT to be my misinterpretation, but what IS ok?
I’ve bought Dummie books, read the info blogs, taken a couple of webinars, brushed up my html, upgraded to custom and learned basic CSS, TRIED to search-box my way around the forums to something relevant (and get pulled off task for hours every time and mostly DON’T find the answer to my specific question!) — and have managed to post a ton of content despite WP challenges that are EATING hours daily I just can’t afford! I still feel like a total newbie every single time a new “something” must be explored (which happens often since the team seems addicted to updates sans upfront notification!!)
2. How long does everybody else spend posting formatted content? I expect SOME massaging once I paste it into the MS Word “box” and insert, but I am spending WAY too much time massaging [ALREADY written] content. (There would be twice as many posts if I could solve ongoing problems – it takes me, easily, 2-3 times as long to get it on the site in a formatted fashion necessary for my readership than it does to write it to begin with — that can’t be normal!) My biggest time wastes are when auto-update initiates when I’m in the html editor and entire sections evaporate – NEVER the ones I’m working on, btw. No, not cache or cookie stuff, and the [edited] content isn’t always in the auto-update either, so I’m out the time I’ve spent almost every time and have to start over. I must html every post, so its no small problem. (yea, I know! but I need specific formatting and haven’t been able to get the CSS to help me out there)
3. I’ve read enough to know the team HATES “multi-topic” questions, but how in the world do you find where each “topic” lives to post the question there? The search box doesn’t seem to help much for MY questions – TONS of unrelated posts to wade through, no matter how I word the search.
So I finally decided to post on this “newbie” topic to see if I can get some answers. Sorry if I didn’t do it right, but I can’t figure out what “right” IS!
4-Is there any way to “follow” a non-wordpress blog or site? If so, HOW? PubMed etc., some med schools, a couple of neurologists and expert doctors, etc. – they are NOT going to switch -or- spend time signing up for every platform every “follower” uses.
5. As a last try before I ditch the WordPress platform, I am going to hire a consultant for the Thesis stuff, and have decided to have him work here on .com as well. I need him to be able to fix/edit anything on my blog, and to be able to experience my challenges so he can help me figure this out in my lifetime. I’ve been told, “‘it’ shoudn’t be happening” – and it IS, so I need it to stop, whatever it takes. How do I give Stephen access?
My understanding is that he needs to be an “administrator” – but I have already broken the “only one administrator rule” because my friend Jason, a non-WordPress-literate Citibank web professional has been trying to help with the custom CSS nonsense & needed access — he’s stumped by the same things I am. AND, since Stephen runs his own server, he is not “on” the wordpress domain. I see only choices to add wordpress users.
ALL I want from “.com” is to be able to populate all categories quickly so I can use the time I’m spending NOT getting things done working on a site where I can use plug-ins, e-commerce, etc. Ultimately, ADDandSoMuchMore will host free content with links to my monetized non-WordPress.com site, [ADDCoach.com] where I can have a shopping cart, etc. I’d dump this .com blog and run, but need the continuity, since, in addition to almost 100 posts/drafts, I have done a ton of marketing about it’s existence and ADDers don’t do well with change.
ALSO – if the problems are going to haunt me with Thesis as well, I need to make some new choices as to platform. THANKS – any help gratefully appreciated. After MONTHS of spinning my wheels, I’m outa’ savings and outa’ time. GOTTA get back to income-producing work.

@mghcoach4add: With all due respect, posting a 900-word message covering over 4 different topics does not help anyone. If you can’t find a topic in which to post, create one. It’s easy. Click on Add New Topic on the front page. Or, click on the link below.
